Terms of use
Last updated 13 October 2026
These terms apply to everyone who uses MotorTrader, whether you are looking for a car or selling one. By using the site or creating an account, you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy.
What MotorTrader does
MotorTrader is a marketplace. Dealers list cars, and we put buyers in touch with them. We check every dealer before they can list, and we remove listings and dealers that break these terms.
We are not the seller. The sale of a car is an agreement between you and the dealer. We do not own, inspect or hold the cars listed, and we do not handle payment for them.
Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create an account.
- Give accurate details, and keep your password to yourself.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.
- One account per person or business.
If you are buying
A dealer being verified means we checked the business. It does not guarantee a car.
- See the car, or have someone you trust inspect it, before you pay.
- Check the papers: the customs documents for an import, and the vehicle licence.
- Be careful with deposits, especially for a car that is still being imported. Agree the terms in writing and pay into the dealer’s business account, not a personal one.
- Import timelines on a listing are the dealer’s estimate. Shipping and clearing can take longer.
If a dealer asks you to pay before you have seen anything, pressures you, or the details do not match the listing, stop and tell us.
If you sell on MotorTrader
Dealers agree that every listing:
- is for a real car that the dealer owns or is authorised to sell;
- describes it honestly, with its own photos, its true year and mileage, and any known damage or accident history;
- shows one all-in price: the amount the buyer pays for the car, with no charges added later that the listing did not mention;
- for an import, gives a realistic estimate of when the car will be in Nigeria;
- is marked sold, or removed, as soon as the car is no longer available.
Dealers answer buyers who contact them, keep their business details up to date, and follow Nigerian consumer protection law, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act.
Plans and payment. Listing on MotorTrader needs a plan. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through our payment provider and renew until cancelled. You can cancel from your plan page at any time, and your plan then runs to the end of the period you paid for. A free trial, where offered, is one per business. We may change plan prices with at least 30 days’ notice.
What is not allowed
- Listing stolen cars, or cars you cannot legally sell.
- Misleading prices, photos or descriptions, or bait listings for cars you do not have.
- Asking buyers to pay MotorTrader, or anyone claiming to be us, for a car.
- Harassing other users, or using their contact details for anything but the car.
- Copying listings or data from the site in bulk, or trying to break or overload it.
We may remove content, suspend an account or close it, with or without notice, if these terms are broken or we believe a buyer is at risk. A dealer suspended for breaking these terms is not entitled to a refund for the current period.
Reporting a problem
If a listing looks wrong or a dealer has treated you unfairly, send us the listing link on WhatsApp or by email at admin@motortrader.store. We look at every report and can remove the listing or the dealer while we investigate.
Content on the site
Dealers keep ownership of the photos and descriptions they upload, and allow us to show them on MotorTrader and in links shared from it. Our brand guides and articles are ours; you can share links to them, but not copy them wholesale.
Our responsibility to you
We work to keep the site accurate and available, but it is provided as it is. Listings are written by dealers, and we are not responsible for a dealer’s cars, statements or conduct, or for a sale between you and a dealer. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under Nigerian consumer protection law that cannot be limited.
Where we are responsible to a dealer, our total liability is limited to the plan fees that dealer paid us in the three months before the claim.
Changes and the law that applies
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when. If a change matters to you we will tell you before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction.
